VIDEO: Bulgaria invites you to Junior Eurovision 2015

The prestigious Junior Eurovision singing contest will find its home in Bulgaria this fall, after the absolutely stunning performance that Krisia, Hasan & Ibrahim gave in Malta last year. Despite the fact that Krisia was one of the youngest participants and also terribly sick at the time, the trio took the stage by a storm and secured Bulgaria the 2nd place. This brought the country much needed unity and pride, and reminded everyone that dreams do come true when we all work together and towards a common goal. Lesson re-learned! 🙂

When the winner, Italy, passed on the right to organize the 2015 Junior Eurovision contest, Bulgaria gladly accepted the invitation and is wonderfully excited to give you a tiny, little preview of what you can expect to discover when you come in November. We know that you will like it, so please enjoy!!!

WOW! Great Start to a New Year: Bulgaria Ranks Among the Top 10 Countries to Visit in 2014

…And we are back with the first edition of “Spotted!- All About Bulgaria” for 2014. We hope you had a relaxing and refreshing holiday season. (OK maybe NOT!!! Who are we kidding? – holidays are rarely quiet and relaxing with all of the commotion that out-of-town family members can bring, but after all that is what makes this season oh so special, isn’t it? 🙂) Either way, we are happy to have you back and are fired up and ready to start the year with a BANG! And here is a “clue” on how we plan to do that:

  • Inspire Travel! Inspire Travel! Inspire Travel! (Are you inspired yet? 😉 )

As you might already be able to tell, the items that we have recently spotted and picked to feature this week,  do just that “they inspire travel”. So let’s go and see what we have in store for you! 🙂

The Top 10 Countries to Visit in 2014 on Rough Guides – If your New Year’s resolution is to travel more, then do yourself a favor and check this list out. Guess who secured the #8 stop on it? 🙂 That’s right! Yours truly- Bulgaria!!! 🙂 Now that is what we call a great start to the new year! 🙂

If until today you have been hesitant to give Bulgaria or the Balkan region their fair chance to sweep you off your feet, then this is the year to do it. Over the past few months, Bulgaria has continued to steadily climb the charts of all sorts of “Top-something” lists among which were:

These are the ones that come to mind at the moment, but there are certainly at least a few more, like National Geographic’s Best Winter Trips 2014, which named Pernik along side Paris, the Nosara Beaches of Costa Rica and 12 more worldwide destinations as the best winter trips to take this year. (p.s. for those of you familiar with Pernik inspired jokes, this is NOT one of them! 🙂 )

This trend is posed to continue. No doubt that we will see much more of Bulgaria and its amazing cities in various top- travel charts throughout 2014. How can we be so sure of that?! Well, it is really very simple: when you offer good value you are bound to get good recognition. 🙂

Don’t miss out on experiencing the oldest established state in Europe, (681 A.D.) before it gets discovered by the rest of the world and don’t forget to let us know how we can assist you with your travel plans there.

Until then: Dream.Plan.GO! 🙂

Atelier by Casey Angelova
Atelier by Casey Angelova
http://www.caseyangelova.com/2013/01/atelier.html

This week, we are feeling a bit like Santa’s elves, working on a little something special, which is why this post is going to be shorter than usual. Instead of the 3 articles that you have come to expect from this series, today we are featuring just 1, but boy is it good!!! We sincerely hope you enjoy it!

As always, if you would like us to include a great find of yours in our weekly roundups, please don’t hesitate to contact us via the Contact Me page. We will be happy to help spread the word. 🙂

OK, that is enough chatting for now! It’s time to get back to our special project, so we leave you to the deliciousness of this week’s pick:

1) Atelier  on Eating, gardening, living – Is just one of many delicious posts by Casey Angelova, a graduate of the Culinary Institute of America, a Bulgarian farmer and a mother of three. Perhaps you don’t think of Sofia and a great French bistro in the same sentence, but surprising is what Bulgaria does best. Read on and find out what about Atelier so pleasantly surprised Casey that even had her say: “I will be eager to return in the warmer months. Another reason to spend more time in the area.”

Happy Monday and stay inspired!

In Bulgaria for the Holidays

Pre-holiday Sofia

It’s Monday and this is “Spotted!- All About Bulgaria”, our series in which we highlight interesting articles and tidbits about Bulgaria and share them with you. This week we are dedicating our post to the fast approaching holidays. If you have not already gotten into the holiday spirit, we hope that after reading what we have hand-selected for you, you will! 🙂 Bulgaria is a real treat during this time of year and although nothing really comes close to personally experiencing it, we will do our best to help you get your fair share of the Christmas-cultural-feast that Bulgaria has to offer. 🙂

As always, if you would like us to include a great find of yours in our weekly roundups, please don’t hesitate to contact us via the Contact Me page of this blog. We will be happy to include it in a future post. 🙂

Without further ado, welcome to the Christmas season in Bulgaria!

1) In search of Christmas: Spending the holidays in Bulgaria on Euro Travelogue (Chronicles of wondrous European journeys.) – If you are someone, who has a very low familiarity with Bulgarian culture and traditions and has never spent Christmas in Bulgaria, this is where you would want to start. This article offers a comprehensive overview of how Bulgarians used to and are currently celebrating the winter holidays. To create an accurate and full account of all of the festivities, the author relies on an interview with a local. If you are curious to know what kukeri and koledari are? What was Santa Clause’s name in Bulgaria before 1989? And what it is that Bulgarians eat during the 40 days leading up to Christmas and on Christmas Eve? This is your chance to find out! 🙂

2) 3 Golden Rules for Traveling to Bulgaria on Wandering Educators – If this holiday season you are headed to Bulgaria, be WARNED: Don’t go before you have read these 3 Golden Rules!!! The article is written by our very own editor and offers general advice on how to approach your time there so that you can get the most out of it and enjoy it. Bulgaria is a country with a context-rich culture which makes it an unbelievable experience, BUT only if you are able to crack her code correctly. The right mindset will make all the difference, so before you board that plane make sure you have at least skim through these three. Trust us, you will be glad you did!

3) The Hobbit, Shopping, and a Visit to Sofia’s Christmas Market on Suitcase Sweethearts (American girl meets Bulgarian boy; adventures ensue.)- And to round-off today’s list, we have chosen a semi-local account of a lazy-Christmas-season Sunday written by an American gal who moved to Bulgaria for love. 🙂 The author’s photos of the Christmas market and decorated center of Sofia are magical and will easily transport you there! Through this article you will also see, that although Bulgaria could be quite “Bulgarian” and “strange” to visitors with its many traditions, it could also be very cosmopolitan and quite familiar with its malls, 3D cinemas and holiday market. It is up to you which one of the two (or perhaps both) sides of Bulgaria you will chose to experience, but either way you will be happy you did. 🙂

That’s all from us for today! Happy Monday and we hope you have a great start to your week! 🙂
