Thank YOU for an AWESOME blogging year! <3

Koprivshtitsa, Bulgaria
Sleepy Koprivshtitsa, Bulgaria by Alexander Sandev

2013 is quickly approaching its end and in just a few hours time, the world will start bursting into fireworks as one by one, we all start ringing in the new 2014! With time quickly running out, we grappled with a few ideas of what our last post for this incredible year should be, going thought the usual “reflection”, “year in review” & “hopes/goals for the new year” themes and at the end deciding against all of them. Why? Well, certainly NOT because we don’t have enough to say about any of those, BUT rather because we have something MORE important to focus on and that is GRATITUDE! So here comes our fireworks-inspired “Thank you!” especially for you.

THANK YOU FOR AN AWESOME 2013!!!

You, our readers, made 2013 extremely incredible & memorable for us and we could not think of a better way to send it off, than with a gratitude post dedicated to the people who made it so very special for us! 🙂 We hope you stick around during 2014, as there are lots of ambitions, dreams and aspirations that with your help, we will surely turn into inspiring projects and life-changing experiences! That is all from us for this year!

In summary: Sending off 2013 with much gratitude to you & ringing in 2014 with a longggg “to do list”, but why would we want to have it any other way?! 😉

Happy & Healthy 2014!!! See you there!

Spotted!-All About Bulgaria: Short & Mouth-Watering

Atelier by Casey Angelova
Atelier by Casey Angelova
http://www.caseyangelova.com/2013/01/atelier.html

This week, we are feeling a bit like Santa’s elves, working on a little something special, which is why this post is going to be shorter than usual. Instead of the 3 articles that you have come to expect from this series, today we are featuring just 1, but boy is it good!!! We sincerely hope you enjoy it!

As always, if you would like us to include a great find of yours in our weekly roundups, please don’t hesitate to contact us via the Contact Me page. We will be happy to help spread the word. 🙂

OK, that is enough chatting for now! It’s time to get back to our special project, so we leave you to the deliciousness of this week’s pick:

1) Atelier  on Eating, gardening, living – Is just one of many delicious posts by Casey Angelova, a graduate of the Culinary Institute of America, a Bulgarian farmer and a mother of three. Perhaps you don’t think of Sofia and a great French bistro in the same sentence, but surprising is what Bulgaria does best. Read on and find out what about Atelier so pleasantly surprised Casey that even had her say: “I will be eager to return in the warmer months. Another reason to spend more time in the area.”

Happy Monday and stay inspired!

In Bulgaria for the Holidays

Pre-holiday Sofia
Pre-holiday Sofia by Alexander Sandev

It’s Monday and this is “Spotted!- All About Bulgaria”, our series in which we highlight interesting articles and tidbits about Bulgaria and share them with you. This week we are dedicating our post to the fast approaching holidays. If you have not already gotten into the holiday spirit, we hope that after reading what we have hand-selected for you, you will! 🙂 Bulgaria is a real treat during this time of year and although nothing really comes close to personally experiencing it, we will do our best to help you get your fair share of the Christmas-cultural-feast that Bulgaria has to offer. 🙂

As always, if you would like us to include a great find of yours in our weekly roundups, please don’t hesitate to contact us via the Contact Me page of this blog. We will be happy to include it in a future post. 🙂

Without further ado, welcome to the Christmas season in Bulgaria!

1) In search of Christmas: Spending the holidays in Bulgaria on Euro Travelogue (Chronicles of wondrous European journeys.) – If you are someone, who has a very low familiarity with Bulgarian culture and traditions and has never spent Christmas in Bulgaria, this is where you would want to start. This article offers a comprehensive overview of how Bulgarians used to and are currently celebrating the winter holidays. To create an accurate and full account of all of the festivities, the author relies on an interview with a local. If you are curious to know what kukeri and koledari are? What was Santa Clause’s name in Bulgaria before 1989? And what it is that Bulgarians eat during the 40 days leading up to Christmas and on Christmas Eve? This is your chance to find out! 🙂

2) 3 Golden Rules for Traveling to Bulgaria on Wandering Educators – If this holiday season you are headed to Bulgaria, be WARNED: Don’t go before you have read these 3 Golden Rules!!! The article is written by our very own editor and offers general advice on how to approach your time there so that you can get the most out of it and enjoy it. Bulgaria is a country with a context-rich culture which makes it an unbelievable experience, BUT only if you are able to crack her code correctly. The right mindset will make all the difference, so before you board that plane make sure you have at least skim through these three. Trust us, you will be glad you did!

3) The Hobbit, Shopping, and a Visit to Sofia’s Christmas Market on Suitcase Sweethearts (American girl meets Bulgarian boy; adventures ensue.)- And to round-off today’s list, we have chosen a semi-local account of a lazy-Christmas-season Sunday written by an American gal who moved to Bulgaria for love. 🙂 The author’s photos of the Christmas market and decorated center of Sofia are magical and will easily transport you there! Through this article you will also see, that although Bulgaria could be quite “Bulgarian” and “strange” to visitors with its many traditions, it could also be very cosmopolitan and quite familiar with its malls, 3D cinemas and holiday market. It is up to you which one of the two (or perhaps both) sides of Bulgaria you will chose to experience, but either way you will be happy you did. 🙂

That’s all from us for today! Happy Monday and we hope you have a great start to your week! 🙂

Healthy on a Budget: Add some Bulgaria in your NYC breakfast for under a $1!

Gerry here!

Friday has finally arrived and at ~WithLoveFromBG~ we are once again at the end of a very exciting and inspirational, but also quite long week. Still don’t feel bad about us just yet (you really shouldn’t 🙂), because we have a little secret that we would love to share with you, that helps us stay healthy and energized without breaking the bank. What is it?– you ask! Well, you will find the answer in our daily breakfast!

Secret is out: We add a little bit of Bulgaria to the most important meal of the day in the form of a dairy drink called Activia!

What is not a secret at all is that Bulgaria is the homeland of the yogurt and if anyone at all could create a delicious and nutritious yogurt drink, then that is this country. Activia is a product that contains the ingredient Lactobacillus Bulgaricus (look at the 2nd image bellow to verify that for yourself) which is the signature bacterium ingredient of Bulgarian yogurt and the one that helps regulate the digestive system by helping your body get rid of toxins. What’s more, L. Bulgaricus is the only bacterium that has never damaged the human organism anyhow and has been associated with longevity. One 7 oz bottle of Activia, which comes in various flavors (strawberry, strawberry-banana, peach, mango, prune, etc.) is equal to one serving size and contains only 160 calories. It also tastes great and costs only $0.99!

So what’s not to like?! We love it and religiously start our days with it. After all who doesn’t need a little friend by their side to help them stay healthy and energized without breaking the bank? We sure do! 🙂

Hope you have a happy and healthy weekend! 🙂
